Transfer On Death

Mickey Plaut is a competitive bridge player who began the "sport" following his bout with cancer in 1995. Mickey, who regularly golfed and played tennis, found the new game to be interesting and a natural way to forge friendships from the course and the court to the card table.

Keeping friends close during the changing seasons of life is of great interest to Mickey as well as finding a tangible way to show his gratitude for the care he received during his cancer battle. Recently, while reviewing his estate plans he thought about the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara and the excellent treatment he received. Mickey wanted to remember the Cancer Center in his plans by utilizing one of his assets for the future of cancer care in our community.

Mickey had several possible assets to choose from and he wanted to keep it very simple. He elected to utilize an instrument called a TOD, or Transfer On Death, for a particular mutual fund he had held over the years. He simply called his mutual fund company and asked for a "Transfer On Death" form and named the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara as the future owner.

Mickey then alerted the Cancer Center of his plan and was included in the Stepanek Legacy Society of the Center.

If you would like more information about utilizing the TOD model or have other questions about your future gift planning, please feel free to contact me for assistance.
